Write a retained fact with an owner
Our chat tools include pinned memory for context you want available beyond the immediate turn. Name the character a fact belongs to, especially when your persona and the AI profile have different roles.
Nora, the adult dispatcher, has the route book. My character Theo has the cancelled ticket. The ferry has not departed, and neither character has opened the parcel.
These notes describe the story state. A preference for brief spoken replies belongs with reply instructions, not a large copied transcript.
Keep instructions about behaviour or style
Use custom instructions to ask for one question per turn, limited narration or leaving your character's actions undecided. Compare those preferences with the definition so they are not working against each other.
For example, a request for expansive scene-setting conflicts with one that insists on a single short sentence. Decide which format you need, change that one preference and inspect the following exchange.
Replace notes when the story moves on
- Identify the missed fact.
- Check the definition and retained context for a competing version.
- Update an outdated note.
- Restate the current situation briefly and ask the next question.
If the ferry leaves or the parcel opens, remove the earlier state. Retained facts supply context but do not guarantee flawless recall. Save wanted writing before resetting or deleting messages.
Keep sensitive records out of fictional memory
A story-memory control is not a document vault. Do not store passwords, identity records or complete payment information in it.
Use recap examples for continuity and privacy checks for audience questions. If a reply never arrives rather than missing a detail, use technical support steps.
